Why is Metrolinx's PR department professing this as such a shocker?

Maybe if some of them actually rode the train day in and day out, they'd realize we're not blowing smoke out of our ears for no good reason.

As some of you have read, or forwarded to me, GO Transit is launching an etiquette campaign because they're amazed at how we're so pissed off by other people's crap.

I guess they thought we were just pulling their chain in the 20,193 tweets sent since 2011 to @gotransit about the problems we face day to day. And no it's not an April Fools joke: GO Transit targets commuters’ most irksome etiquette violations

Personally, I feel actions speak louder than words and it's time to do what we've all asked time and time again, start fining for the bad stuff, especially feet on the seats.

But nope, instead, Metrolinx made it rain by spending money on an campaign that kicks off next week with posters (if it's anything like Christmas' burnt turkey then "yawn") and videos. I really can't wait to see the videos.

But you know what? The Quiet Zone campaign worked out so perhaps this MIGHT just work.

Fingers crossed.

Oh My Sweet Baby Jeebus! It has only taken them this long to figure it out?

“It’s amazing how important the etiquette stuff is,” said Metrolinx spokeswoman Anne Marie Aikins.

This particular line just about drove me around the bend this morning. Seriously? We are stuck on a train, with NO WHERE TO GO for 30-60 mins. Of course etiquette and courtesy play a part. It isn't like we can just get up and move if people stink, are talking loudly. And wet feet on the seats? Unless someone lets you know, you only find out about it once your butt hits the mess!

Seriously? This kinda makes me wonder how many of those people actually read this blog. This would have been a gold mind.

Regardless, some posters are not going to cut it. Announcements don't cut it. They need to start enforcing the bylaws. This means FINING people. And as I have said it before, the monetary gains outweigh the expenses. At least until people shape up.

But if we fine people, then we lose customers - Metrolinx hand-wringing board member

NO. YOU. WON'T.

You own the monopoly in regional transit.

Exactly! I just don't understand that mentality.

It could even be similar to the smoking ban when Ontario introduced it before I moved here. Restaurants complained a blue streak about losing patrons. Instead, attendance rose after the ban.

Same thing. Start treating your current paying customs better and others should start coming back or shocker! some won't leave.

Why does Metrolinx continue to waste money on stuff designed to be nice to people who don't care about anyone else??? Hit them where it hurts! Their wallets!
