Carpool to Whitby for priority parking

According to those who have VIP parking spots, GO can't even protect the spaces people actually PAY for from drivers who park illegally and we're expected to believe FREE spaces (for carpoolers) will be enforced. Here's hoping. The lots need to be monitored. Parking abuse is a huge problem.

In a pilot project, GO Transit is offering carpool parking at four of their stations. If you use one of these stations, you can apply for a free carpool parking permit: Oakville, East Gwillimbury, Burlington and Whitby.

How can they enforce this? Also, what if the one person is not working one day can you still use it? What if I sign up with my sister to get the space but I only travel home with her. This is not a great idea.

Pass not transferable, but I assume if you and partner have a car you get 2 one for each vehicle.

Interesting rule regarding poat 9 AM. Anyone can use them? So if you carpool at a later time other than rush hour, too bad,

The permit is not transferable and is license plate-specific. Only vehicles belonging to individuals living in the same household and
identified on the application are permitted to use your carpool parking permit. Any assignment, renting, or subletting of, or any attempt
to assign, rent or sublet, a carpool parking permit is expressly prohibited and will result in immediate termination of this Agreement
pursuant to Section 11.

7. Carpool parking will be enforced prior to 9a.m. After 9a.m., customers may park in carpool parking spots without a permit. If customers
without a permit park in a carpool parking spot prior to 9a.m., they will be ticketed.

Ya know, there was a time when the northeast lot at Whitby (the one on the north side of the roadway into the station) was a designated carpool parking lot. There were signs on the 401 that even pointed to it.

Surely those arriving after 9am are precisely those who need a reserevd spot the most?

Once again, the LSW stops with overflowing parking (Long Branch, Mimico) get no relief. Thanks GO!

@Grumpy LSW Commuter: This is a TRIAL... if it works, then it will probably be rolled out to other stations.
Also: Long Branch and Mimico both ghave good bus service. Use that, and you'll never worry abotu finding a parking spot again!

TONS of abusers of this program. One lady has the balls to sit there alone in her car while legitimate carpool cars search for an empty spot. I hate everyone.

Carpool Abuse at Rouge Hill: I watched a woman pull into the carpool spot right before the train was scheduled to arrive. She exited her with a permit posted. She was the lone occupant in the car. I saw her at the end of the day and same thing, she entered her car as a lone occupant. I called Go Transit parking enforcement (before 9:30) to report it only to find out they have a harder time enforcing when a driver has a permit. The designated carpool parking at Rouge Hill is at a location where most go transit passengers will not see on a regular basis since the area is mainly for disability parking and some limited regular parking, allowing the abusers of the system to keep getting away with it and hiding behind their permit. They should put these designated spots close to reserve parking so that these drivers can be witnessed very clearly by other go transit users who park legally. Maybe this will prompt more enforcement rather than Go Transit. Completely outrageous! Most honest people don't even know this is happening at a time when go transit is already been criticized for lack of parking or is considering charging parking fees. These spots should be removed because go transit can't even enforce abuse that is taking place by permit holders!
