Tickets, yes. Tow, no

Here's two donkeys parked in the Oshawa northwest lot thoroughfare this morning. There's a white SUV in the background behind the black Nissan. Both got tickets.

Sure, I fistpumped and yelled out a yes! But then I began to look at this more subjectively.

Here's how awkward it was to navigate around these cars.

Many probably think they should have been towed. I'm most certain Bob's Towing in Oshawa would have been happy to oblige. But, as someone pointed out, these may be VIA rail customers who took a train after GO's morning rush. This explains why the cars were there overnight. I don't have suggestions for VIA customers. These people probably park out of desperation.

A note about enforcement. As frustrating as parking donkeys are, GO Transit is ill-equipped to deal with the recent onslaught of these parking infractions at Oshawa.

According to several readers who have called and complained, all have been told that GO is doing what it can to clamp down on illegal parking, but at the same time, has to accommodate for the fact that some of their lots just don't have the capacity to accommodate everyone.

When speaking with GO, I was told that customers are being advised to find other ways to get to their stations either by carpool, bus, taking an earlier train or driving to a different station.

For those frustrated with the situation in Oshawa, Whitby has a parking garage with many spaces available. It's not a considerable distance to drive to Whitby. It just means changing your routine. It's those who take trains past 8:00 am who have difficulty parking at Oshawa. GO isn't going to be making extra spaces at Oshawa anytime soon, so driving to Whitby may be your best bet.
