Kudos for leaving the driver out of the rage

From @GOvoygr

Hi Cindy,
With the demolition of the Dufferin St. bridge this weekend past, not only was LSW toast, but Route 12 got screwed in the process, too.  Instead of Burlington being the western terminus, passengers were dumped in Hamilton and transferred to the express bus from Hamilton to Union station.  What the folks at head office forgot about is that some people actually work in Burlington.  I posted this issue on GO Transit's Facebook page, but 20 Bay St. ignored the matter.

Knowing what kind of a shit show it was for the drivers Saturday, I made a point of bringing one of the drivers a coffee Sunday morning.  Only one person got on the bus; let's call her Lindsay.  The driver explained to Lindsay the change in terminus for the trip, which did not sit well with the young lady, but she paid her fare and was seated.  As I gave the driver her coffee, Lindsay returned to the front of the bus and asked if the driver could break a $20 bill so that paying for local transit in Hamilton would be easier; the driver obliged.  The young lady was polite to the driver at all times.  I wished the driver well and left.

I returned home and reviewed the Twitter activity for "gotransit".  That is when I learned the identity of the young lady.  Meet Lindsay.  Does she have anger issues?  She certainly kept up the tirade against GO Transit through the day.  Fortunately, Lindsay did not vent her frustrations toward the driver.  Unfortunately, many passengers do.

I didn't find her tweets overly angry, unless she has deleted some and I am missing something. She swears a lot in her tweets, but not the ones to GO Transit. She is forceful, but still polite.

She makes a very valid point - why terminate the bus early simply because there are no trains? It really doesn't make a lot of sense, and GO Transit was not helpful in their responses.

Unfortunately, what may start off as a small irritation can grow into a raging fire when companies don't respond to customer service complaints.

It looks as though she did some housekeeping.

I don't see how her ranting on twitter is any different than, oh I dunno, writing a ranty blog? :p

GO Transit messed up big time. They should have run replacement buses along the LSW route. (Or better yet, run trains over as much of the route as possible and buses in the gap.

Despite @GOtransit tweeting (parroting, actually) “We have limited # of buses & drivers”, there were plenty of resources sitting idle in Hamilton through the weekend. GO Transit still has not answered the questions (i) why Route 12 wasn’t left as is, and (ii) why Route 16 wasn’t modified to run Hamilton – Burlington – Union. Another example of 20 Bay St. out of touch with what happens in the field.

If they ran trains into port credit they would need approximately 10 - 15 buses each train trip, running half hour service, 16 hours is 416 bus trips into Toronto, with traffic that's almost 1.5 hours into and back to port credit. Making it possible for one driver to do only 4 trips, which would require approximately 110 drivers for the one day, plus the regular trips and service to be run manpower would be an issue...
