Well, I guess I need to pack up and move to the Netherlands then

From Stuff Dutch People Like:

I’ll never forget seeing a fairly rough-looking British tourist on the metro with his feet on the seat in front of him. As the metro chugged on, various Dutch passengers would approach him to tell him that this was clearly not allowed. He’d glance at each of them in an utterly bored manner and continue about his business - feet remaining firmly planted on the seat.
After about 5 stops, and 5 different lectures, an older Dutch couple marched up to him and told him loudly in English that “he should remove his feet immediately!” He finally looked up, and said loudly Really? Now what the f@# are you going to do about it?” The entire metro erupted into loud (Dutch) chatter of shock and anger. Someone summoned the driver and the next thing you know the disobedient infidele was promptly escorted off the metro, his exit met with hearty applause. (Clearly the older Dutch couple knew exactly“what the f@#$ they were going to do about it!!"

I think you meant "Holland". Time to pick up a geography book sweetheart.

C.J. Smith said...

Nope, I'm pretty sure I meant Netherlands, but thanks.

I'm a geography teacher. It's Holland. I suggest you do some research and get it right.

That was hilarious.

Not knowing that the country is named The Netherlands is even funnier. Holland is a region and former province in The Netherlands.

That was an epic geography fail from anonymous. LOL

Historically, Holland often served as a metonym for the entire country.

C.J. was right. Geography teacher (anonymous) is right. If C.J. meant Netherlands - she was right from the get go. If you want to call it Holland, anonymous, go nuts because you're right too but telling her to pick up a geography book was bitchy. I'm glad your comment was published because it was highly entertaining --- so thank you. I love the trolls. We should engage them more.

Oh Lord, if we were to engage the trolls more, none of us would get any work done. Trust me.

LOL! I'm originally from Rotterdam in South Holland (a province) and some stranger is going to educate me about where I was born?! When people ask where I'm from, I tell them the Netherlands.

I has internet. It's how I smart.

^ I'm with Sasha. That was highly entertaining.

@Fred..

But but but...he's a TEACHER!!! Geography no less.

This is getting funnier by the minute.

Fred when someone asks your heritage, tell them Hollandaise and watch the puzzlement begin...

But, Holland was a country, right?

Some y'all need to hit up Wikipedia.

I have a friend who is from the Netherlands. She is most emphatically not from Holland. No sir. Definately not. No making *that* mistake again.

Definately, "Netherlands" it's the way the Queen had it during World War 2 and so did her children, one of which was born in a Canadian city:

To Geography Teacher: I grew up in the Netherlands, and actually learned geography in Dutch schools.

"Holland" refers to two (of 12) provinces (North and South-Holland), NOT the whole country. The country is actually the "Koninkrijk der Nederlanden" (Kingdom of the Netherlands), and called "Nederland" in Dutch, or "the Netherlands" in English.

Now, I didn't actually pick up a geography book, but I am quite certain of my facts.

Met vriendelijke groetjes!

Oh good grief... if we were to engage ALL the trolls... *head explodes*

Once in a while, I can handle it. After too much entertainment, shooting hot tea or ginger ale out one's nose starts to hurt.

Referring back to the actual article-in-question:
Don't you all wish that EVERY PLACE had such conscientious individuals standing up against such types of social corruption?
Not just on public and commuter transit, but also in libraries and restaurants and businesses-in-general. Public libraries could use people like those when it comes to loud cellphone yakking (or even loud talking in general for that matter).

So what's Luxembourg?

C.J. Smith said...

Are you that broke that you don't have Google?

You're welcome.

^ I love how real that shit just got.

Hey maybe he paid for all six seats? :P(jk)

And give the Geography Teacher a break. Considering the how often they replace text books in school, I wouldn't be surprised if the geography book he actually teaches from does indeed say Holland.

Is the Vatican a country?

I think Holland is like Monaco. A principality. And I should know - I'm the Ambassador!

No wonder why children these days are so uneducated.
