I finally took a look at the photo of the new GO trains we'll get within 18 years

The 18 years is not me trying to be funny. It is fact.

TomW keeps making comments on my post from last night about this and I was like, okay, maybe I should actually click the Toronto Star link instead of just focusing on the "Cradle a rider" comment written in the abstract of the email.

All I can say is ... NOPE.

Metrolinx Photo

I assume the middle armrest lifts up? Great. More room for foot riders to sit sideways!!!

And the faux wood panelling at the back... Are we going to the cottage?

Are the headrests cloth? They look like molded plastic. I presume the scooped design is to help with headrolls for those who lapse into a coma?

Those seats look horribly uncomfortable. No including the headrest. Which looks like it could be a torture device.

And I'm really hoping that those arm rests don't move up. One of those things that drive me bonkers on airplanes is when someone lifts the armrest and somehow moves into your lap. They just keep expanding until all space is taken. That person could be the tinest person on the planet, and yet, they can take up all available space.

i guess grass stains are less obvious on these seats....

But, but the seats... they have stain-resistant fabric! To make cleaning easier! *insert eye-roll here* (Ray Finkle = Laces out! Bicky = No feet on the seats!)

I wonder if anyone has test-driven these bad boys to see if they're really comfortable and capable of withstanding a two-hour commute.

Hey, I only made two comments! :-)

Hadn't notice the armrest - why is there only room for one arm when there's two people?

I actually quite like the green pattern. I also like the existing blue pattern. Blue and green are both good colours for bus/train seats. It's everything *but* the colour I have a problem with...

Agreed. Butt division is very, very, very important.

I just read that GO ordered 65 new coaches from Bombardier. They will be here in 2016-2017 so maybe we will not have to wait 18 whole years to try the new seats.

To everyone wondering why it'll take 18 years for the ENTIRE fleet to be refurbished, and at "no cost": I guess you missed the part where it said GO typically refurbishes 2 coaches per month. *I* take that to mean they already spend money refurbishing coaches, so now instead of putting the same stuff you see now on those coaches, they'll replace it with everything you see (green, curved headrests, scoliosis seats, wood paneling). No ADDED costs above what they pay to refurb a coach now, and that's why it'd take 18 years for the entire fleet to go 'green'.
