I don't think GO train delays will ever compare to this chaos when the TTC suspends service

Don't get me wrong: I love GO Transit compared to the TTC. But a 20-minute wait doesn't sound that bad... I must submit one Service Guarantee per month on average, and that doesn't even count the times when GO isn't at fault for the delays. I'm also reminded of the shit show we had last fall when the LSE was closed at Scarborough, where riders took 3-4 hours to get home. The official alternate route was subway from Union to Kennedy, then LRT to Scarborough Centre, then shuttle bus to Pickering Station, then train the rest of the way. Standing around for 20 minutes waiting for a shuttle bus sounds like heaven by comparison.

That's a very 'Canadian' attitude CJ! Have you been to Japan? No train delays ever! Even England has a reliable train service now and they can't even put out a decent soccer team.

Barring tsunamis, no delay is acceptable ever. Until we take this attitude we will always make do with mediocrity.

(But yes I agree - nothing compares to the on-going TTC gong-show ;) )

the TTC dwarfs GO in terms of number of passengers. the streetcar network alone carries almost as many passengers in a year as the whole of GO, so you can expect any issues to cause maximum disruption. looking at it that way, a 20 minute wait ain't that bad...

I was caught up in this as well. I figured the shitshow at Pape was going to be a doozy, so on the advice of the CSA on the TTC train (who "strongly suggested" that we take either the 506 streetcar or use GO Transit, I got off the subway at Main Street station, walked south to Danforth GO, and hopped on the green limo. I think I was delayed maybe 15 minutes, including the walk and waiting at Danforth for the train.
