Guess who found the site?!!

I'll give you a hint:

Here's another:

Here's how she found it:

Here's her email:

Hello. I saw a link to your website on the GO transit page on Facebook. I clicked it and thought it was funny and clever until I came across something that was about me. I've been riding GO transit for several years by the way and I agree with most of the annoyances you point out but I found a story on your site that was written about me including a copy of a letter I gave to a man who took offence to me sleeping on the train. Please remember there are two sides to every story and no one asked for my side.

(Okay, here's where I need to interrupt. Don't people realize that I don't know who they are and have no way of being able to contact them to ask them for their side? Why do people say that? Anyhoo, carrying on ... )

In the 11 years I've been riding the train I have always slept on the train. I use a pillow to be comfortable and the mask keeps sun out of my eyes and the earplugs help to drown out people who decide to carry on long conversations with god knows who about god knows what at 7 in the morning.

I did not kick Mystery Man. I nudged his foot. I wrote that letter because it really bothered me that he felt he could police my behaviour. I don't think it matters that I snore. Bodily functions are often difficult to control and snoring is involuntary. I like to sleep on the train. I don't see anywhere on GO's site where this is against the rules. My belief has always been that if you are annoyed, you change coaches or seats.

We all have to get along.

Please do not use my real name. I would like for you to publish what I wrote. There seems to be a lot of people who don't realize that first come first serve applies in life and because the seats aren't tied to a ticket with a number, what merit does someone have to dictate what someone sitting beside them can or can't do? Feet and bags aside, sleeping/snoring/coughing/breathing are all perfectly legal.
Here's the background on this story for those who need to get caught up.

Don't get it...the morning train (and the afternoon for that matter) all have sleepers on them. I've seen people bent over in half that look like they're a body that's been dumped, let alone the snorers. Why the big deal, and who would actually write a note to someone to tell them to stop?
You're almost all nutcases...but everyone has to take the damn train.

GET LIVES

This woman is voluntarily behaving in a way which is disturbing to other people. This contravenes GO By-law #2 (link). Specifcally section 3.28e states "No person shall... behave in a manner which does or is likely to interfere with the ordinary enjoyment of persons using the transit system." Further, 3.29 states "No person shall commit an act contrary to respectful and customary etiquette which may detract from the overall enjoyment of the transit system."
Snoring breaches both of those.

Consider: if you were making snoring noises while awake, that wouldn't be considered OK. So, while should snoring noises while sleeping be allowed?

*****

Seperate point for feet-on-seat people: 3.29a states "No person shall... place his or her foot or feet on a vehicle seat or lay thereon any object that may soil it".

@Anon: the issue isn't the sleeping, it's the snoring. If the lady snored while awake, the problem would be the same.

TomW said...

Oh, also: 3.35c states "A proper authority may refuse passage on the transit system to ... a person whose conduct is or is likely to be objectionable to other
passengers".

So this woman could actually be denied access to the train!

I just want to know how this lady isn't embarrassed by her snoring. I'd be mortified. I get embarrassed when my husband tells me that I snore.

Anyway, I think it has nothing to do with what is part of the RULES, rather common courtesy to your fellow passengers.

Why is it when someone disagrees with anything in life, the reply is "get a life"?

What does that mean?

Because Spongebob will be reading the comments, here's your chance to tell her how you really feel.

I hope she's okay with Spongebob.

I don't like snoring. I agree that it is involuntary. I don't know many people who actually can will themselves to not snore. The issue was the volume.

I usually nod off in the morning and hope I don't snore, but I don't come prepared (pillow, mask, etc.) for a full-blown nap! And Spongebob? Are you 7? I would have laughed at you for that alone! And getting the police involved? Despite what your mother told you, you aren't that special princess.

Omg its the Snoring Cow!!!
Many passengers find her behaviour disruptive and it ruins their enjoyment of their train ride. Snoring like a chainsaw is equivalent to blasting music. That wouldn't be tolerated. And I agree I'd be totally embarrassed if I snored like that.
Lady get some breathe right strips and slap one on your nose. This is a commuter train not a sleeping car.

I did feel threatened with him glaring at me on the platform from time to time.
As for the rules, please. None of them are enforced. Until a CSA comes and tell me I can't ride the train, I am within my boundaries to sleep. Snoring, like I said, can't be policed.

I've sat near you a few times. As a nurse, I would suggest you visit your doctor. You have some serious sinus and breathing issues. There are times where you snore so loud, the bass of your snore rumbles down my back. It's a level that is NOT acceptable. It is surprising that no one has complained about you.

I like how she found the site funny and clever right up until she found an article about herself,

Does that mean that as soon as she saw that article, what she had previously read suddenly became unhumorous and silly?

I absolutely love how you adopted your Spongebob stage name! I give you full marks for being mature enough to be willing to engage in a civil conversation about this.

However I think your note was.... immature is the kindest description I can come up with.

Medical conditions need to be accomodated, annoying behaviour need not. If I am attempting to sleep quietly or need my concentration to do some work and your snoring impedes me - then you must stop snoring - period.

I agree with Ali too. I'd be mortified as well. But from the sound of it, she must sleep ALONE... ALWAYS. Which is why she is so clueless as to how disgusting it is. She wears earplugs to drown out loud talkers because that annoys her? Hello HUGE lightbulb turning on? Really? Loud sounds annoying in the morning? Whodda thunk it? But I know how she can redeem herself. Invest in some commercial grade earplugs and hand them out to the poor saps stuck sitting around her tired, sorry, ignorant ass. CAN SOMEONE PELASE VIDEOTAPE HER? I need to hear this for myself!!!!

I have to agree with Megan's comments that there SpongeBob may have an underlying medical condition. I don't think SpongeBob is getting enough sleep at home due to her snoring/breathing and should she seek medical advice.

For SpongeBob's sake, I hope this is the case so that we can all feel bad for making fun of her.

So you can break the rules as long as you don't get caught? I hope to God you don't have children if that's your philosophy. Dear, if I sat near you I would wake you,(gently and kindly), each and every time you made a noise. Why are YOU annoyed by people talking around you? But it isn't ok for those around you to be annoyed by the noises coming from you? Snoring is involuntary, sleeping in public isn't and neither is ignorance and discourteous behaviour.

This train just gets crazier and crazier.

Forget the recording put it on YouTube so everyone and the "Snoring Cow" can see how disruptive and irritable she is.

But clearly, her sense of entitlement is so unbalanced. Is it okay for you to disturb everyone but it's not okay for you to be disturbed SC?

The GO train is used for transportation... NOT your BED... so go to bed early like most of us do so you don't embarass ourselves in public.

... and trust me if "This Crazy Train" website has a section on just you... its not a compliment!

Spongebob needs to go back to the crabby patty shack and stay there.

The suggestion to visit the Doctor is an excellent one. Snoring has been correlated with Cardiac problems. SB may want to make sure that she is not subject to a secondary ailment. Visit your doctor. You can be helped!

Barb Carmichael said...

Wow. a) not surprised she found the site b) can't believe she doesn't grasp how she's in the same group of people who yak on the phone, listen to loud music and hang out in gangs near the doors carrying on like banshees on the ride home.

Listen SB, you are JUST LIKE THOSE PEOPLE.

Sure, you can sleep on the train but the snoring? Not right. Listen to the medical experts. Something is wrong with you and GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR.

SB said...

I am a mature responsible adult. So I can conduct myself in a mature manner.
I don't think I have a medical issue. I like to sleep on the train and don't want to stop.

Here's what I don't understand. If it's so bad, why not just wake me up? Right Alan?

Anonymous said...

If you snore while upright, as opposed to lying down, chances are you have a medical issue. Snoring results from something obstructing your air passage - if you're sitting and still snoring - get yourself checked. If you are so tired you MUST sleep on the train, perhaps you already suffer some sleep apnea...Just sayin' - don't want to have to press the strip for a medical emergency...

You're all nuts...sweatin' the small stuff is a sure way to an easy grave, so why not just carry on with your lives and not worry about SB...live and let live/die or what ever...but then I guess there'd be no blog if people could bitch.

you can control bodily functions like snoring if you stayed awake. Why does one find the need to get sleep on a train when they can easily do it in the 8 hours prior to boarding the train?

whether you nudged him or kicked him, where was the need to do that? I could simply nudge your head with a rolled up newspaper and tell you that I just "nudged" you, don't worry about it.

If you are snoring so loud that the entire bottom half of the coach can hear you at 60dB, then there is a problem. Let me know what train you are on and I will give you a packet of those nasal strips, free of charge.

Marion said...

Also, Spongebob should give everyone ear plugs to drown out her snoring. It is probably as disruptive as everyone else talking around her.

Lastly, this was a "save my arse" fail. Nothing from her e-mail really gave her any points for the events that happened.

Most of the time I don’t make comments on websites, but I'd like to say that this article really forced me to do so. Really nice post! cpapguide.net
