So about yesterday morning's LSW mess

What a disaster yesterday was for the Aldershot commuters.  I got to the station and saw that the 630 eastbound train had been cancelled…no problem, I was getting the 645.  I reached the platform and the station attendant came on PA and advised that the 630 was cancelled due to freight train traffic.  A couple of minutes later she came on again and said that it was worse than previously thought and that a freight train had broken down blocking all trains from getting through.  She advised us to go to the bus loop and wait for GO buses.  The herd started to had that way, (I was at the tail end), and just as I was about to reach the bus loop, the herd started to reverse course, people noticed that there was now a train waiting on the platform.  I am now at the head of the herd and I walk briskly back to the platform.  Just as I reach the top of the stairs the CSA announces the doors are closing and just as I leap aboard, the doors close.  150 people have now been effectively kicked off the train as they were incorrectly told to go to the bus loop.  I start walking through the train to tell the CSA what happened and the doors open and close about 3 times, (someone must have been trying to hold the doors open).  I reach the CSA on the 4th attempt to close the door and tell him what happened.  His reaction was surprising….I think he was so pissed that people were holding the doors open, that he just shrugged it off and closed the doors.

Not sure how many people made it on the train, but it couldn’t have been all of them.  You see, the great part about Aldershot is the rush hour eastbound trains leave from platform 2/3.  This platform only has one set of stairs to get to the platform as the other egress is an escalator that has not functioned for many years.  So people who were coming back were really challenged to get to the platform via that single set of stairs.

Oh, and don’t forget, since the 630 was cancelled, that was 2 trains worth of passengers who wanted to board that train.

Parking. You're doing it wrong

So stand then?

Hi
You published a photo of my husband with his feet on the seats
My husband suffers from severe back pain and was in a brace for three months
He has been told when possible to put his feet up or stand for short periods
To see his photo on your website was embarrassing and wrong.
How about you ask people why they have their feet up instead of assuming everyone is just an asshole???

Like this guy?

Well this stung...

subject:Wednesday night suicide
Hi CJ
I've been a longtime fan. Even follow you on twitter but I have to say, you really should be more mindful of the optics when you proclaim a suicide is a cause for celebration by announcing drinks and rallying the troops for "drannnnnk" as you said on twitter...
My son ended his life 10 years ago and I will admit I am sensitive to these matters.
I wouldn't write you if I didn't support what you do and your website. But just in future if the delay is because a pedestrian got killed, let's not celebrate it with a round of drinks.

MZ

Deeply hurt by this email, I went through my tweets from Wednesday and no where could I find any tweet where I wrote I was celebrating a suicide.

Durham bus driver charged with impaired after collision with SUV

A Durham Region Transit driver is facing two charges after her bus collided with an SUV yesterday on Kingston Road in Pickering.

The bus was westbound on Kingston Road, near White's Road, when the driver rear-ended an SUV. There were 14 passengers on the bus at the time however, no injuries have been reported.

Police found an open bottle of liquor near the driver's seat.

Charged  with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and failure to provide a breath sample is Kirsten Hasted, 39 of Coburg.

How to behave on a GO train for WE Day

THE WRONG WAY

Group of 9 or so teenage girls (with 2 parent 'supervisors') boarded the train in Whitby (6:33). Have been full volume the whole way, non-stop selfie taking, often with a selfie stick impeding people's access, feet & bags on seats, sitting on the floors to use the seats to play cards on, music blaring from phones, full volume singing.... OMG its toooo early for this! - Adults have made zero attempt to control anything, talking to each other & posing in the pics. They did stop the kids from coming up to the quiet zone, but with their yelling & laughing & singing, on the half level, really didn't make a difference.

THE RIGHT WAY

Sit still. Don't be a seat hog. Keep your feet on the floor and just be respectful of others.

So apparently, the CSA, on yesterday's train that hit the poor fellow, had to make an announcement to stop taking pictures and video of the accident site. My friend who was on that train told me this morning.

What the hell?!?!?! Has society become that crass and disgusting? If so, stop the planet, I want to get off.

I could only find one pic on Twitter. At least people heeded the advice.

Check your seat

Unlike Oprah there won't be a key to a brand new car under it but there might be poop. Dog poop.

Yesterday morning I walked to the far west end of the Oshawa platform and boarded one of the last few coaches. I was the only passenger on the lower level until another woman boarded looking perplexed. She disappeared into the washroom only to exit seconds later. She sat down two quads over from me, facing in my direction and began to rub the bottom of her shoe against the corner edge of the seat cushion in front of her. She also mumbled something about "no water" and "motherf$cker".

She caught my eye and exclaimed, "I got dog shit on my shoe!" Then she realized what she had confessed and took in my reaction. I thought I could smell something, maybe it was all in my head, but I got up and announced, "That's disgusting!" And I bolted for the next coach.

TIL: Woman gets dog shit on her shoe, gets angry about lack of water in train bathroom, takes frustration out on seat cushion to 'stick it to the man' only to realize that was a dick move when another passenger didn't stand up and cheer.

This is "Runt". He'll make your Monday better

My sister's dog had a litter of seven puppies. We went to visit them this weekend in London. Thankfully they were all spoken for because my daughter was ready to kidnap this guy - the runt of the litter.

Smoakville - where everybody is woefully stupid

Making the transfer today in Oakville - city of German Imported Cars and Super Inflated Entitlement.
Let the pics tell some of the story:

Smoakville 1 - A nicely composed shot - note the young smoking couple under the two conveniently placed no smoking signs. Nothing new here, really. Approached to a safe distance (not easy since they were upwind) and asked if the signs meant something different to them.
They had the good grace to leave right away - though snickering.
Smoakville 2 As they passed I noticed the other two - Mr. Big Boy Pants, and a guy who looks like he still thinks he could land a spot with the 1990's Bare Naked Ladies.
I ask them to please comply with the GO no smoking policy. Mr. Bare Naked Manque responds that the law says that he has to be more than 15 feet away from the doors. This is wrong.
He's on GO property, and if it were adequately explained by the signage (it isn't - and why is that?) he'd know (or have no way of denying) that he has no right to smoke on GO property.
He's also closer than 15 feet to the entrance, but hey, he can only be so wrong before he's over 100% wrong - am I right?
Smoakville 3: So I'm snapping pics and his little friend (they're in Blue Jays matching outfits! SQUEE!), Mr. Big Boy Pants, offers to break my "fucking camera". So I turn on the video feature and ask him to approach and repeat. Strangely enough, he demurs.
As my local bus is leaving I note that several more smokers have taken up the perch between the no-smoking signs and the PRESTO machine.
For the 1,250th time - howzabout a sign that clearly explains that there is no smoking on GO property and what that means in terms of geography and possible penalties?
When they're smoking right under your signs as they are now, and right by the PRESTO machine, I 'd say its safe to conclude that the GO safety and comfort of passengers commitment beyond being a travesty and is in the neighbourhood of being a willful lie.

Addendum: GO YANKEES!

So how's the Burlington GO Station coming along? (Oshawa peeps take note and be prepared for long years ahead)

Ready the pitchforks - UP sees 23 per cent drop in ridership since June

Would more people ride if the fare was lowered?
