I hate to point this out, but the driver was 66 years old. That's a pretty demanding job that requires a lot of attention to detail, quick reactions, etc. My father is 64, and I know he couldn't drive something that big everyday. I'm not even sure I could.
I'm not saying that 66 year olds shouldn't be working, but him on a desk job or something.

Really? 66 is an age issue? That's a bit severe! If the driver has health problems on top of his age then maybe it's a factor but a healthy 66 year old can quite capably drive a bus.

Unfortunately I don't think his age can be ruled out as a factor. We'll see what the investigation says but research shows that seniors are involved in more accidents than the rest of the population and more fatal accidents other than young new drivers. Deteriorating eyesight and reaction times are a natural part of ageing that can cause trouble behind the wheel of any vehicle let alone one that is three times the length of an average car.

Um, these drivers need to pass medicals to keep their licenses. And, if you look at who is driving most charter buses, it is drivers who have retired from transit type jobs.

I know 40 year olds that lack the cognitive skills to drive.

This is 2015! 66 years old ain't old.

Any body can fall asleep at the wheel. I think more important than age is how long was he working, have his shifts recently changed, or undiagnosed medical issue.

1. Sit at the back of the bus!
2. Sit behind the driver!
3. The front seat is the suicide seat. Stay away!!!
4. The driver survived because he is mandated to wear a seatbelt!
5. Metrolinx and the MTO need to start installing seat belts on their coaches!
