Toronto Mayor announces children 12 and under will ride TTC for free beginning March 1

That's all I've got.

I'm waiting on an official news release and this better be true as we're a long ways off from April 1.

But Twitter says its true and Twitter NEVER LIES.

TTC already says they have no money. Why eliminate this revenue stream?

This announcement is also being accompanied by a 10 cent fare increase. So basically, everyone else will be subsidizing the free rides for children.

I'm one of the few people who believes that transit should be free for everyone! (or subsidized by everyone in other words). This is great news.

In Cuba, specifically in the province of Ciego d'Avila, it appears residents ride public transit for free. We never saw any exchange of fare during our walking tour and folks just hopped on and off.

All other fares will go up. This is the classic "put the good news in front, and the bad news in small font" tactic.

If Twitter says it's true then it must be credible.
After all, when it comes to anything emanating from such professional media sources such as Twitter one must consider it as good as fact.

Finally, an increase that doesn't affect me on a daily basis. Just once in a while.

I don't like paying for other people's mistakes (aka kids), but I think this is good overall.

I'm waiting to see how this plays out. Hopefully the lazy little brats won't abuse it and use the TTC for one stop instead of walking 1/2km.

This will help a lot of lower/middle income families.

That's who it will *help* the most.
