Prego Ignoramus (latin for rude - ok I made that up, but read on... )

Hi CJ,
I am pretty easy going on the train and let most poor behaviour pass with just a dirty look - cuz let's be honest, we all have faults that annoy or irritate someone. BUT...imagine my surprise when this women pushes out her banker briefcase, puts her feet up and then proceeds to read a book (and eventually fall asleep) blocking the aisle and forcing (as seen in this photo) people to "ahem" and eventually push pass. Yes, she was pregnant (I think!) But I refuse to believe that this was warranted.
I've had two GO train pregnancies (both high risk) and have chosen to alter hours for less crowded trains, wait for the next one or sit on stairs. I gladly give up my seat to preggos, but this "taking over" is completely unwarranted...and she ignored all stares and commentary I might add. Takes Balls...I only wish I had your balls and instead of muttering my comments. I would had yelled 'em out loud!

Tough to tell if she's gestating or not. But still completely rude behaviour.

What someone needs to do (and I have hit the August crankies so watch out) is "trip" on this display. Move the bag, watch feet hit floor, and maybe see some change in behaviour.

I had a friend in Montreal, a some time stuntman and trained gymnast, who used to delight in taking tumbles off the hoods of cars that encroached on pedestrian crossings/made "rolling stops" at intersections... something dramatic like that is needed here...

I am of the opinion a pregant woman can do no wrong,

If she parked it in the ailse becuase there was no other seats, more power to her.

Swift beatings to any and all who oppose her.

Agreed, Deepfish!

If that was the only way she could sit due to her pregnancy she could have least smiled at other passengers and explained the situation rather than burying her nose in a book and ignoring people trying to get by. How she's positioned her legs is dangerous and she was rude because she made no attempt to make others aware of her feet and why they were there (the email gives no indication of any attempt at communication... ).
I took a huge box on-board with me once. As people went to navigate around it, I apologized.
Nothing wrong with being gracious...
I've been pregnant. I didn't feel I was entitled to anything more than a seat.

Many pregnant women have problems with swollen feet (edema). It could be that her doctor suggested she raise her feet as much as possible to reduce swelling in her legs. Perhaps she works in a job that requires a lot of standing, and her GO commute is one of few times she can raise her feet.

Given, she could have "apologized" as another commenter suggested, but we shouldn't be so quick to judge!

Or she could have gone to the accessibility coach.

Had she let people know her situation, I'm sure no one would've had a problem. In fact they would've gone out of their way to ensure she was comfortable. But she pulled a douche move and acted like she was in her own living room, not a train. So you can call me Judgey McJudgeson.

As the person who submitted this, I can say that while we were amazed (sitting in the door threesome seats) when she kicked her feet up, were were gobsmacked when she ignored (flat out ignored) those trying to get by. This poor woman stood there for a good 15 secs, and tried two different ways to get past before figuring it out. Had she asked, we would have gladly switched seats so she could have put her feet up in an out of the way spot (hum, come to think of it, the door seat WAS available when she sat down and that door isn't used until her stop). And I get swollen feet - heck, read the two high risk pregnancies issues, but for the 20 minutes she had them up, she's not gonna gain much. I judged her rudeness in ignoring people and forcing them to "leap" the feet - and it wasn't just one person. As to the suggested stunt trip...I was "this" close, but friends said it wasn't my issue and begged me not to :) (and quite frankly it was midly amusing to watch people flumoxed at the behaviour - kinda like watching that montreal Gag show, ya know?)

No way Al. I've got 2 kids, one pregnancy while commuting and I was sick for 16 of the 18 months and managed to get through everyday life. I am getting so sick of reading shout outs, etc. about the entitlement of pregnant women. Being pregnant is not a disability. ALSO, there is some ugly ass footwear going on there!

I doubt she was under any dr's instructions - my feet swelled during my pregnancy and I found out the whole "put your feet up" is a myth - that makes it worse. You're supposed to walk around to help it, create circulation.
