Changing a baby's diaper on a train seat - yay or nay?

You iphone people and your ipotato shortcomings - can't turn off the flash; can't turn off the shutter sound. Just let out a massive fart as you take the photo and done.

There's a lady a few rows ahead of me who walked into this coach all pissed off because the washroom upstairs didn't have a change table so she's now changing the diaper. The smell is terrible. I'd take a photo but I don't know how to not draw attention to myself. I'm pretty sure the accessibilty coach has a table but when a man told her that she said she shouldn't have to walk seven cars to change a baby. She doesn't even anything down on the seat and I don't see anything for her to sanitize her hands. What do you think? Is she in the right? I think she she do the walk.

I used to change my kids on the couch at home all the time. But that was my couch and I wasn't subjecting dozens of people to the smell. I wouldn't have an issue with someone changing a baby on the bench of a TTC station, but on a confined GO Train where we are deep in the doo doo with no where to go doesn't seem right.

She should have done the walk.

Actually, I think any of the newer cars have the larger downstairs washrooms that would have a change table.

you leave a kid in a dirty diaper for 30+ minutes and you're dealing with a bad rash for days on end.
I say you do what you got to do, most parents would understand.

No. I have 4 kids and IT'S NOT RIGHT! You can wait half an hour or walk a few feet and save people the smell.

i say if there isnt a change table in that car then who cares. ive smelt worse people on the train then a diaper. would you like to sit in your sh*t or what have you for 30 min? and that is assuming they would only be on the train for 30 minutes.
to the person who wanted to take a picture....get a life. why do people think it okay to invade peoples privacy like that?!? we believe that someone was doing this....we dont need photo proof.

It isn't just the smell, it is the potential of spreading fecal matter on the seats (are you going to steam clean that out?)

As a none parent, I get upset about this. There are always work arounds. Even if this person laid down a blanket or something, then walked back to the bathroom to dispose of the diaper, that would have been better.

Just because the woman didnt put down a blanket doesnt mean there will be poop on the seats. im sure theres worse things on those seats that you dont know about. people are so easy to judge...try walking in her shoes.

Would you like to sit in your own poop for half an hour? No. As a parent you do what you need to do. Shit (literally) happens. She tried to do it privately but it wasnt an option.

Nope, never okay. Fecal matter, and a potential fountain spray (if it's a boy) on the seats is a health risk. Not just that, by not putting anything down between baby and the seat, what kind of bacteria is she subjecting her kid to (that was already on the seat)?

Gross, gross, gross....

Well now that I've heard what the rational sober folks had to say and ignored the maniac trolls, here's my 3 cents.
Yep, I've been in her shoes and I walked to the accessibility car and took care of things but life doesn't always hand us roses, sometimes it hands us steaming shit where we need to pull over on the right side median of the 403 and change and clean a baby on the hood of a car in the dead of winter because I couldn't take the smell anymore, and driving with the windows down wasn't an option. I did it fast and quick but still one lady actually went out of her way to get off at an exit and come all the way back to pull up behind me threatening to call Children's Aid. I was shaking so bad after that incident and still feel to this day that was way over the top.
You can plan to the nth degree to manage a child but it's hard to manage poop.

Just a thought, and I realize that sometimes we don't think rationale when our kid makes the car smell like a sewage pit... but maybe the right side median of the 403 wasn't the best place to change a diaper. Especially if the other lady was able to take an exit and come back to criticize you. The side of the highway is an EXTREMELY dangerous place to be stopped.

If I was bringing my kid on the train, I'd probably sit in the accessibility coach in anticipation of having to change a diaper at some point.

The area where I pulled over was deep and inset with grass. I was way off the highway, as far as I could go. I also wasn't familiar with the area at the time and it seemed like forever for an exit, although later I saw that if I had driven another four kilometres, I would have come to it. I can't remember where I was exactly, but I was on a stretch of the highway towards Brantford. I pulled over for no different than anyone would for any kind of delicate situation and legally, according to the HTA, I could do so. People barf. Tires blow. Cars break down and we're all expected to pull over to the right shoulder.
I'm not stupid. I exercised as much caution as I could and I was anxious at how much poop was coming out of my child and her screams.
This woman's issue was more that I changed my daughter on the hood of the car in the cold -- not so much that I was on the side of the highway. I also had to rip the padding off the car seat and throw it in the trunk. It was a bad day all around. This woman only made it worse.

When I travelled with the baby on GO I was on the accessible car, so I didn't realize that not all cars had the change tables.

But seriously you expected her to carry all her stuff and the baby 7 cars to change a diaper? Have you tried to move between cars with those heavy doors when the train is moving? I can barely get those doors open myself (admittedly I'm not a huge person)! Now do it with a wiggly baby and all your bags? It's not fair to expect that of her. And it's not fair to expect the baby to sit in poop for the length of the train ride.

I know kids that would be rashed up for a month (bleeding rashes too) if they sat in poop that long. You do what you have to do - but EVERY washroom in a GO car should have a change station. They hook to the wall and just open up. It's not like they take up room.

If airplanes can fit them in their miniscule washrooms, GO has no excuse.

Not to add fuel here but I only had to walk one car down with Jayde to change her diaper and a woman held the doors open for me between coaches. She was in her carseat carrier and my diaper bag on my shoulder. I don't remember being stressed but it sounds like this woman went looking for a table and realized how far down she had to go and gave up. Probably a bad day. Poop happens. We should all deal.

I'm pretty sure someone has tried

Simple. Use the washroom.

Parents are saints either way. It's always easy to judge when you're not the one required to make a snap decision.

Each boy also has one change of clothes. One. I know some moms pack two or three, but I'm cramped for space and have honestly never needed more than one anyway, Baby diaper

I've even changed my little one's diaper on a trash can lid in a restroom, in the booth of a restaurant, my car, in the trolley, wherever is handy. It's a shame most restaurants don't have any changing stations!
