Did you know GO still offered alerts by text message?

I didn't.
A tweet from a follower says I can.

I used to receive text messages but I recall an email from GO about a year ago, or maybe longer, where I was to change my communication preferences and only receive email.

Anyone else confused?

To re-establish your text alerts, instead of relying on emails, as apparently the text messages are more timely, visit the Subscriber Registration page and once signed in, take a look at the top right hand corner of the set up form and you'll be asked to enter a cell number.

I have been getting texts all along, and opted for the emails at work too...covered both ends. The texts are much faster I find.

i've actually never used the email function and i've always received texts....

I get text messages from GO. Usually much timelier than emails.

So glad I'm working from home today.

Not so quick here. The SMS option has the following disclaimer:

Note: Certain phone carriers (e.g. Public Mobile, Mobilicity) are not included in our list as they do not have the functionality to support text-messages to/ from a “short-code” (e.g. 89846). Unfortunately, customers of these phone carriers will not be able to subscribe/register for On the GO text messages until the carriers update their networks.

Why did GO Transit not develop their IT solution to the lowest common denominator, i.e. full telephone numbers? Why is it the carrier’s fault -- and clients’ loss -- that GO Transit developed this facility to a standard that serves a subset of passengers?
