Gee, want some cheese with that wine?

No GO parking results in ticket

As published on Durham Region.com as a Letter to the Editor
I discovered a crazy thing the other day. I am a new student up in Peterborough, and I have chosen to travel by GO bus. The only problem is that when I leave later in the day I cannot find a parking spot at the Oshawa GO train station. My only recourse was to park illegally if I wanted to take the bus. I first thought I might get a ticket, but then I thought they would not be so mean.
Long story short as I can't re-publish the whole letter without Metroland's permission, sucky baby got a ticket.

Since when is getting a parking ticket a "crazy thing"? Who raises these people? There are signs at Oshawa's GO lot that warn people that vehicles parked illegally "may be towed".

The letter writer then goes on to complain that GO needs to do something about parking ... compares Oshawa to Whitby and doesn't think that maybe, now that he is aware of the crappy parking situation at Oshawa, he can save himself the $100 each parking ticket costs, drive to Whitby, take the train to Oshawa and board the bus. Pain in the ass, but problem solved.

The situation isn't going to get better and Metrolinx isn't going to build a parking garage when it's proposed the Oshawa station be moved should they ever go ahead and find the money to build the Clarington expansion (Courtice - Bomanville - Newcastle).

Someone wrote a reply and this person commutes to Ajax. Not surprisingly, the letter writer has zero sympathy for the sucky baby and his parking ticket woe.

can you imagine if and when they have to repave the oshawa lot??! that last time they did it, it was a nightmare. they tried to do the work mainly over a weekend but it was a joke. i called in sick to work for 3 days because parking was so bad and i live too rural where there's no bus

He is undoubtably one of the tards that is the second person to park at the end of the row and blocks in the people parked legally and causes them to have to do a 90 point turn to get out, or come back for their car after jerks like him have moved. Cry me a river.

Just get to the station earlier. Problem solved.

People always ask me why I'm in the office so early. I have no problem getting up earlier to get a spot in the lot and a place to sit on the train. But I'd rather people not know my secrets so I tell them it's because I like leaving earlier...

Mean?!?!?! Seriously? You are trying to prove your case and you think a corporate entity is mean?

They provide parking for those that arrive on a first come-first serve basis. I believe it already mentions that on the website. If you cannot make alternate arrangements - like what CJ said or even taking the bus to Oshawa station, then think of another argument than "mean".

He deserves the ticket. If he thinks he is going to receive sympathy, I think he is barking up the wrong tree.

It's like someone who speeds and complains when they get a ticket for it.

I park at Ajax, and even though I can take the 8:08 train - I get there at 7:30 to get a parking space.
But what bothers me the most is the people I see who get there at the same time as me, and see that the farther parking lot still has spaces, but still choose to park illegally. LAZY!!!!
Park in the far lot and walk! It drives me crazy!
P.S. First time commenting - luv the blog :)

@ Gina, those are the ones I wish were towed.

I catch the 6.41, so lots of parking is available at that hour. But when I walk back to the car after 6pm, I seethe.

*waving* Welcome, Gina!

We have idiots who park illegally, too, at Whitby and I can't figure out why. There's still oodles of spaces in the parking garage. Guess they're too lazy to take the elevator down.

I park in the first south lot at ajax and when I get there there are still anumber of empty spots, yet almost every single day there are assfucks who illegally park right next to the stairs. and the reason you ask?

THEY ARE FUCKING LAZY.

and now they are parking right next to all the paid reserved spots and one day soon they are going to have lines of lipstick all down the sides of their doors.

btw since when is a parking ticket $100??

When you're parked in a fire lane/route, it is.
$30 for parking in a non-spot, such as end of row but not blocking fire route but if you're parked where you block people from exiting spots or limit the space for an emergency vehicle to go 'round, it's 100 clams

Ok I haven't noticed where exactly the fire routes are, however there is no way in hell any emergency vehicle could get down any lane in the south lot at ajax. Hell, I can barely squeeze my litle car down the lanes with all the illegal parkers let alone a wider emergency vehicle.

It's not just the parking but the crazy ass stunts you see people pull to get out of the lot at night. Thanks to tonights fiasco Oshawa was priceless. I was parked up towards the back of the lot and I figured I might as well just sit parked and wait for the stock car shenanigans to ease off before starting up. This nutter rushes to his car next to me, starts the engine and drives straight up the curb, over the side walk and into the buses only exit road, turning left into Victoria without even worrying about oncoming traffic or buses. Seriously there are days when I wish the Darwin effect would strike..

I've done this a few times when I've been boxed in by donkeys and can't drive out of my spot so I have to resort to backing up over the curb and onto the bus roadway. I've also resorted to driving on the lawn. I don't like it. I have an SUV so I can climb over curbs but still ...
