Fun times on the Barrie line

So this just happened at 8 am.
Trains are holding and it's expected the police investigation into this dump truck/train collision will last 2 to 3 hours.
Unfortunately, the train's PA system is not functioning and the CSA went from coach to coach to check on passengers.
There are no injuries reported.

Special thanks to @LisaMBritton on Twitter for the photo and heads up.

CityNews has more on the story.

On this train now!!! Heard loud thump and a shake. I can only speculate. Truck was late and jumped the gate! Now we wait as the police investigate!

Wouldn't exactly call it fun times, hope everyone is okay.

The truck was late and jumped the gate? Oooh, someone is going to get fired over this. I took the second train in, thank Jesus. Good luck and hope you're outta there sooner rather than later.

re: fun times

Yeaaaah, so sarcasm, right?

If people would drive with utmost care and attention, we wouldn't be having this discussion at all.

^ Agreed!

You know, I've been a long time reader and lurker of this crazy train and for the first time I feel compelled to say something. A lot of you anonymous "fans" are extremely critical of a person who:
a) uses her free time to maintain and create/find/write content for this site
b) doesn't charge you for access and doesn't inundate us with ads or advertising using our "views" to make money

If you don't like how Cindy does things around here, fuck off. I'm sick of reading it. I actually appreciate that she doesn't post all of the comments because I am sure many of them are negative and frankly, I don't care to read it.

I like this site for one reason, it's entertaining and many times, super informative or addresses shit I find it annoying and let's me laugh at it.

So thank you Cindy, for what you do.

Hi Sherri

Thank you! I am extremely selective about which comments get published because as a fan of other blogs, I too, don't care to read over 100 comments trying to find one that has some meaning, makes a statement or makes me laugh. I totally get it.

According to GO, the trains are still stopped... Have they begun moving towards Union or are y'all stuck there all day? Kind of curious because of the route homebound this afternoon...

one of my coworkers just got into work now, I can't imagine being stuck for that long. Apparently the drump truck driver had minor injuries, thankfully. What kind of an idiot takes those risks?

What was this dump truck driver thinking?

Was the R/R signals activated and did the train blow its whistle before the crossing.

re: last anon

This accident happened at a "private crossing". Those crossings are not required to have "positive protection"(i.e. gate and/or bell) and only need cross bucks and trains need not blow the whistle or apply the bell in advance of such crossing. All vehicles using the crossing must stop and proceed only when it is safe to do so.

I know this crossing. We have a 'near miss' there a couple of times a year. Usually with the dump truck, probably the same driver. He threw 'snake eyes' on this day and lost; I wasn't surprised when I heard GO got him on this day.
