Why is this bus being a bus?

Yesterday morning, a young woman extended the privilege of allowing me and others to listen in on a conversation she was having on her phone while the train idled at Oshawa.

Please, let me share ...

Woman: "OH MY GAWD. That bus ride took forever. You should have just drove me. I'm never taking the GO bus again."

(pause)

Woman: "It was ridiculous! The bus kept stopping, people kept getting on ... like, every stop. Every stop!"

(pause)

Woman: "I know, right? Like where do all these people come from? I was shocked! And of course everyone has to pay and the driver has to give change, and he's taking his time, and I'm like, this is INSANE!"

(pause)

Woman: "Well, I hated it. I'm never doing it again. What was even more annoying was the driver kept stopping at every yellow light, like, he totally could have ran them all. All it means is that the light's gonna change but he's stopping at every... single... one. And all this traffic is going by. I was like, for reals? Let me drive the damn bus."

(pause)

Woman: Like seriously, right? Oh my god. I don't know why anyone takes the bus when driving is so much better. Okay I'm gonna go. I can tell everyone is like, listening to my whole life story. I'll call you lates. K? Bye.

... and my head exploded. Mushroom cloud. Boom.

The wonderful thing about GO buses is that they're dark inside and you can trip idiots like this one as they walk down the aisle to the back.

Was this "woman" 16? Because I am pretty certain my non-transit taking Mother would know that the bus stops at stops with people at them.

But I do like Anon's style.

You are actually supposed to stop at yellow lights!
(... unless you cannot do so safely - generally because it would involve slamming on the brakes).

I'm gonna peg this woman at 22 or 23? Maybe?

i personally prefer the buses that don't stop at any stops.

Omg. Like seriously ? Duh. That's why they call them bus stops :p. At least every other word wasn't "like".

I hope someone in bus operations is reading this. Their driver actually stopped to pick up passengers and sell them tickets courteously, and safely stops at amber lights (as per the LAW). Does this idiot questions why the train kept stopping to let people on? Why they don't run signals? To this girl - when it comes to life, you fail.

The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round, round and round... the wheels on the bus go round and round, all through the town...

Buses stop at bus stops??? Who knew???

I know, right? Just... WOW. What a novel concept. :P

What I hate is the buses that don't stop at stops.... (Sometimes the bus comes right after school when the bell has just rung, and no one is out yet. A few of us take the same bus every single day. Of course it passed by today as I was walking downstairs. Of course.) XD

"I wonder why anyone bothers to take the bus when driving is so much better!" Then... drive, maybe? Hahaha.

I've also fantasized about firing a few old-fashioned spitballs. Everyone sits facing forward on the GO bus... this arrangement has advantages.

don't listen next time, you sound like a little 14 your old bitch. OMG.

"Don't listen next time"?

News flash: humans can't turn their ears off. Unfortunately.

"YOU SOUND LIKE A 14 YEAR OLD BITCH, LIKE OMIGAWD."

The clueless sense of entitlement is strong in this one...

I know it's hard, but please don't feed the 12 year old trolls people, just ignore them and they go away.

As for the topic, somebody has been living a very sheltered life...

You need to distinguish between local transit, and the supposedly EXPRESS Go Transit system.

No one is suprised by local transit buses making frequent stops.

However, there was recently a transit strike in York Region. As a result, some people actually started relying on Go Transit's ROADSIDE stops between Newmarket and Aurora.

The added delay was palpable, especially since people would get off the bus as well as on it at the roadside. Also, despite the availability of machines to pre-purchase tickets, many insisted on buying tickets on the bus.

It really did start to feel like local transit for a while. I can sympathize with anyone finding themselves in a similar situation.

Although, let's face it, no one ever likes to listen to someone else complain.

She was on a regular GO bus that makes its way across Highway 2 from Newcastle to the Oshawa GO.
I ride the same bus.
It picks up passengers at pre-determined and marked stops and it does this every morning when the driver sees someone standing there.
I believe this is how this particular GO bus route works and I also believe the stops and its schedule for how how many times passengers can expect it to stop is well documented on GO's website in the schedules that are provided.
I don't think GO was trying to hide that it provides a system that stops and picks up passengers.

It's funny how people think it's easy to drive a bus. I would love to see her give it a try. With me a safe distance away of course.
