All kinds of rude

Last night on the 5:10 LSE, the guy in the tank top decided he'd listen to rap music with explicit lyrics and all kinds of profanity using the external speaker of his BlackBerry. He was holding it up to his right ear like some kind of micro boombox. Like it's 1968 and he just bought himself a super cool Transistor radio for the beach.

Eminem is known for his lyrical, rapping prowess but most of his rap songs are laced with profanity especially the song, Superman. At some point, dude realized that perhaps not all of us were comfortable with the f-bomb being dropped every 20 seconds and he shut his music off.

Now, see the guy standing in the green shirt? He came upstairs searching for a seat after the train pulled out of Pickering. What he didn't see was the woman who reached down and threw her bag on the seat beside her. Why the hell do people do that? So it was okay on the floor and now it isn't? When the guy made his way over to what he thought was an empty seat and with this chick perpetuating that she's asleep, he pretends to fiddle with his iPod because he's been stopped cold. I almost spoke up and asked the woman to move her damn bag but I recognize her and didn't want to make it awkward, for myself and the guy in the green shirt.

He did snag a seat after the Ajax elephants got up to charge the aisle for the wait-by-the-doors-maneuver they're infamous for.

The way I see it is this: Your bags belong on your lap or on the floor during rush hour. You wanna bag ride? Take the 10:13 and stretch out your stuff all you want but quit this nonsense on the express trains. There's no excuse for it and people shouldn't have to ask you permission to sit in a seat they damn well paid for.

He should have sat on the damn thing. Bags belong under the seat or if they are deemed precious, in your lap.

That would have taught her a lesson.

Are people really that anti-social? Jeebus. Just let the man have a seat!

I just move their sh*t if they aren't going to do it.

Haha, Ajax elephants. I like how green-shirt is standing right beside the bag lady. I hope this lasted for a while. And I hope she felt really uncomfortable for being such a moron.

Uncomfortable? Please. Girl was frontin' that she was asleep.

Some people are just shy and don't want to ask to sit and again, I don't feel they should be made to be put into such a position.

I wish I was some kind of balls fairy where I can help everyone grow a pair but not everyone on this planet is assertive.

Trust me, the last thing this guy needs is a woman to speak up for him and ask the lady to move her bag.

Not that there's anything wrong with a woman pulling punches for a dude but I know my testicles would shrink a little if this was me.

HAHAHA balls fairy. Love it.

He should have said something. No one should be too shy when they are so obviously in the correct position.

People don't like confrontation. Plus these asshats tend to react like you're going to kill them when you dare ask. It's time people stopped being so damn nice to these arseholes.

Some people have no shame.

Accidently bang into her when the trains jerks around a corner, step on her foot even and then innocently look at her when 'sleeping' beauty eyeballs you. OHH soooo sorry, the train is soooo crowded and it's hard to hold onto the ceiling. (or if her eyes don't open, yell to everyone...O-M-G, she's DEAD!!!)

Forget the music, the rudeness, etc. I know the weather is nice for November but are those bare legs on the seat hog and a beater on that guy??? Someone call Stacey and Clinton!!!

ughhh guy in the green shirt is a pussy. just step over her, Ooops!! sorry, did I step on your foot while trying to step over you so I can sit in a seat that I (and not your purse paid for)?? oh well!!

if he doesnt have the balls to claim a seat he is entitled to, then he deserves to stand.

sure the bag bitch should have moved her bag, Im not saying she isnt at fault, but at the same time i dont feel sorry for people who cant speak up for themselves either.

so let me ask you people "who dont like confrontation". if you are standing in line at the bank or the market or wherever, and some asshole cuts in line in front of you, are you just going to stand there and say nothing?????

Hey DF,

In that situation I would have spoken up. I have spoken up about a lot of things other passengers have done. But it is a losing battle. That is probably why people don't actually speak up. You might get a seat this time, but the other person's behaviour will never change.

Sorry but I don't see the big deal in politely asking someone to move their bag. I believe the euphemism is "excuse me is that seat taken?". I have fortunately never had anyone turn around and say "yes - my bag needs this seat", though I have seen people try the "I'm saving it for a friend" which is where perhaps a bit of assertiveness comes in.

@squiggles: I don't expect people's bad behaviour to change. I do, however, expect to sit in a seat and not stand because someones bag is on a seat.
