Help a nut out. He doesn't understand the crazy

from noreply-comment@blogger.com

Sure, call me Ron
has left a new comment on your post "Letter from a rail nut ...":

I'm a little taken aback but I will admit I did not spend a great deal of time on your site to see it for what it is. My apologies.

That was your first mistake ...

I do have a good sense of humour which is why I am not mad. When I got your email back to me I couldn't understand why you went off on the tangents you did. My first reaction was: "This woman is very strange". I was actually a little put off, truth be told.

I'm still not sure what to make of you.

Don't worry, the others will help you figure it out.

Repost from the previous entry:

Ron, believe us, the tangents are the best part of this site!

If I can find it, the best one of the day was the bathroom one. Found it!

I think this sums up CJ's humour the best.

I have visions of him sitting in his basement wearing a flat cap and surrounded by model trains.

Being a train nut myself, my reaction was "OMG....a Foamer!!!" That's the nickname we give the ones who rant on with facts and figures and stuff that no one wants to hear. This hobby attracts an inordinate number of these types. Don't know why, although there is a theory out there that a certain number of train enthusiasts have some form of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Don't know if it's true but many fit the bill - male, dreamy, live with Mom, middle aged, never kissed a girl, awful social skills.
In theory having an interest in trains is no different than being interested in, say, NASCAR...but some times, one runs into these guys, and quickly makes an exit.
Myself, I'm in my 50's with a loving wife and two grown sons, and no I don't Skype. Have some really wonderful rail enthusiast friends, who do "normal" things in addition to their hobby. But I'm probably crazy too.

I got no issues with rail heads, rail nuts, rail fans, rail fanatics, Asperger's rail people, rail die-hards, etc. What I found amusing was that Ron thought I was a kindred spirit. I feel bad he's crushed.

But how the hell does anyone confuse this site for someone passionate about trains? I don't do trains. I mean, I like them since they get me to work and stuff but in regards to how they work, meh. I respect the hobby ... not sure about the obsessive ones, tho.

Ron?
